Mobile phone charger manufacturers energy saving mainly depends on efficiency
Energy conservation and consumption reduction is not only a technical aspect of current electronic technology, but also plays a key role in promoting government economic growth. Therefore, from CEC, ENERGY STAR to China's "1 watt plan", objective demand and government orientation are two-pronged, affecting the increasingly energy-saving of electronic technology. Power chip manufacturers are also launching a series of energy-saving products. For the various mobile phone charger manufacturers looking to design the latest energy efficiency standards, Power Integrations (PI)'s latest TOPSwitch-HX series is a good choice.
Multi-mode control force, change efficient hotspots as highlights
TOPSwitch-HX integrates 700V switching power MOSFETs, controllers and monitoring functions on a single IC and uses PI's patented EcoSmart energy-saving technology. Having excellent standby power consumption and consistently efficient operation under all load conditions is a major technical highlight of the series.
Doug Bailey, vice president of marketing for PI, said that when the load is in the state of 25%-100%, the average efficiency of TOPSwitch-HX can reach 86% under 115V AC power; under 230V AC power, the average efficiency of TOPSwitch-HX can be Up to 87.5%. Doug pointed out that the TOPSwitch-HX can provide 48W without the use of a heat sink, and its output power can reach 150W when it is used for a heat sink.
To increase productivity, TOPSwitch-HX employs a multi-mode control scheme that uses control algorithms to seamlessly switch between different operating modes to optimize energy efficiency at all power levels (see Figure 2). According to Doug, TOPSwitch-HX uses its unique power factor (I2f) parameters in its design, which greatly improves the accuracy of the output power limit. In addition, designers can optimize the design of power components to further reduce system cost.
Aiming at 1 watt plan, no need for independent standby energy
Doug said that in response to the global 1 watt standby power requirements, the TOPSwitch-HX series integrates a 1-watt standby power supply. When using this series of AC-DC conversion products, it not only meets the current energy efficiency regulations, but also eliminates the need for independent 1 watt standby power supply. At 1W output power, the TOPSwitch-HX can deliver more than 600mW of output power and consume less than 200Mw of power.
In addition, TOPSwitch-HX offers a number of protection features: user-programmable latched or unlatched output overvoltage shutdown protection (OVP), input undervoltage (UV) detection to prevent undesirable output fluctuations during shutdown Input overvoltage (OV) shutdown for input surge withstand, programmable precision current limit, optimized line-pressure feedforward for line voltage ripple rejection, and can provide less than 3 in the event of a short circuit % automatic power-on function for rated power.
Doug said that the small size and high integration of TOPSwitch-HX can bring low cost and shorten development time to system vendors. In fact, high efficiency and energy saving should be the ultimate goal of power supply manufacturers. From this perspective, the call for energy conservation in response to various energy standards is also an obligation of every electronic equipment manufacturer. Let us start with the selection of high-quality and efficient power charger products to jointly contribute to the global environmental protection cause.
